Bird hunting is very popular with the local hunters as resident upland birds and resident and migratory waterfowl provide plenty of action and yield great numbers. More locally taken game include: wild boar hogs, rabbits, and squirrels.

There are four public access Wildlife Management Areas in Citrus County, Flying Eagle, Homosassa and Potts Preserve.

State of Florida Hunting licenses can be purchased over the telephone by calling 1-888-HUNT-FLORIDA. A 10-day nonresident license is $26.50, and there can be additional charges.
